abstract |
(57) Abstract [Problem] To provide a method for acylating an aromatic compound in a short time and at a low cost using a catalytic amount of a bismuth catalyst. SOLUTION: The acyl of an aromatic compound having at least one hydroxy and/or alkoxy group comprises reacting the aromatic compound with an acylating agent in the presence of a catalyst and then recovering the product formed. A method of acylation, characterized in that the acylation reaction is carried out in the presence of an effective amount of a bismuth halide or any compound capable of forming a bismuth halide in situ. |
