abstract (57) [Summary] (Modified) [Objective] To provide a technique for arranging a probe point at an optimum position for performing probe, that is, probing of an IC. [Configuration] An IC layout description, a netlist description, and a cross-reference description are retrieved from the storage unit. The data structure associates each net name with a list of polygons. The polygons of the selected net are decomposed into segments of the specified step size. Each segment is evaluated according to a set of prober criteria. The values generated by the prober criteria are weighted and combined to obtain a prober score for each segment. If the best prober score indicates that there is an optimal segment for performing the probe, the coordinates of that segment are stored and used to direct the probe to the corresponding location on the IC. If not, Each segment of the net is evaluated according to a set of probe point cutter criteria.
