abstract |
(57) [Summary] [Objective] To obtain 4-hydroxybutyl (meth) acrylate of suitable quality as a monomer for polymerization without going through a distillation step. [Structure] A reaction mixture of 1,4-butanediol and (meth) acrylic acid is subjected to liquid-liquid extraction with a water-insoluble organic solvent and water to obtain an aqueous phase containing 4-hydroxybutyl methacrylate. Is treated with activated carbon and then extracted with a polar organic solvent to transfer 4-hydroxybutyl methacrylate to the organic solvent phase. The organic solvent is distilled off from this organic solvent phase to obtain 4-hydroxybutyl methacrylate. [Effect] A high quality product can be obtained by a simple operation of activated carbon treatment. |
