| abstract | (57) [Summary] A signal type identifier is provided for transmitting a PALPlus signal. In order to record the PALPlus signal in the S-VHS recorder, partial decoding of the PALPlus side information is performed. Thereby, the additional information is recorded as a baseband signal. The identifier can take into account the partial decoding already done. If the PALPlus signal is recorded on the S-VHS recorder, the color signal can be reproduced normally. A reproducing method for a PALplus signal by reducing cross effects is known under the concept of color-plus, and requires an image memory in the reproducing apparatus. However, the capacity of the image memory at the PALplus receiver / decoder is generally free during the reproduction of the PALplus signal recorded in the S-VHS recorder and can therefore be used advantageously for quality improvement measures. Additional information is added to the signal type identifier for the recorded PALplus signal. This signal type identifier indicates that it is the PALplus signal recorded in the reproducing apparatus, and thus partial decoding, that is, conversion of additional information to baseband has been performed. Based on this information, the corresponding part of the signal decoding is no longer activated in the reproduction device. For compatibility reasons, this extended identifier must also be provided for at least second generation rerecorded PALPlus signals, as well as for PALplus software that is available on the market via cassette. With respect to such already recorded software, the PAL recorder can prevent recording by the extended identifier. This guarantees improved copy protection. |
