titleOfInvention | Production of hydroxyalkyl / ammonium alkanoylalkyl sulfonate |
abstract | (57) [Summary]nDisclosed is a method for producing ammonium hydroxyalkyl sulfonate by the step of reacting ammonium bisulfite and an alkylene oxide, wherein impurities in the ammonium hydroxyalkyl sulfonate, such as alkylene glycol and alkanolamine, are disclosed. The pH is maintained at a relatively low value throughout most of the reaction of the ammonium bisulfite and the alkylene oxide in order to minimize the amount of Ammonium alkanoylalkyl sulfonates produced by the reaction of such ammonium hydroxyalkyl sulfonates with fatty acids form aqueous solutions that are transparent at ambient temperature and are therefore useful as surfactants in transparent liquid products. . It also relates to a method for preventing corrosion in a metal reactor used for carrying out a reaction between a fatty acid and ammonium hydroxyalkylsulfonate by carrying out the reaction in the presence of hypophosphorous acid or a water-soluble salt thereof. It is disclosed. |
