Hookworm anticoagulant |
abstract |
(57) [Summary]nSoluble anticoagulant protein isolated and purified from Hookworm significantly prolongs both prothrombin time and partial thromboplastin time in the coagulation assay. The protein exhibits amino acid sequence homology to the Kunitz-type serine protease inhibitor family. Chromogenic peptide substrates and clotting time assays indicate that the protein inhibits the extrinsic pathway coagulation factor VIIa, an enzyme involved in initiating the human coagulation cascade, as well as the normal pathway factor Xa of the coagulation cascade. |
