titleOfInvention Method and apparatus for measuring electrical and mechanical activity of the uterus
abstract (57) [Summary] A tissue electrical activity monitor is used as a predictor of labor. According to a first embodiment, the presence of intercellular gap junctions is detected by stimulating the cells with an electrical pulse having a selection parameter and then detecting the signal emitted and propagated by the cells. According to this embodiment, there is provided thereon a needle having a stimulation pulse emitting stimulation pulse and an array of recording electrodes for detecting the pulse. In another approach, the array of piezoelectric electrodes is distributed within the array of recording electrodes. The signals detected by the recording electrodes and the piezoelectric electrodes are monitored by the recording device and stored in the computer.
