(57) Summary Products suitable for use in contact with one or more biologically active agents are coated with a glassy carbohydrate film. This glassy coating provides a coating with a weakened surface energy and exhibits weakened binding to the bioactive agent. A method of applying this glassy carbohydrate coating is disclosed, in which the glassy coating is adsorbed directly on the surface of the product. The coated product is used both in vitro and in vivo where contact with biologically active agents is expected. The drawing is a graph of adsorption isotherms showing the effectiveness of the present invention in weakening the binding of insulin to the surface of borosilicate vials. |
