titleOfInvention | Percutaneous injection device |
abstract | (57) [Summary] A percutaneous injection device includes a pad (16) impregnated with a disinfectant solution such as alcohol, a body (10) having an adhesive for holding the pad against the skin of a patient, and an injection. A sleeve (20) with a guide passage (22) through the body to guide the needle (32). A membrane (24) that can be pierced by an injection needle is attached to the sleeve and closes the passage (22). This membrane is a self-sealing type, and as soon as the injection needle is pulled out, the membrane formed by the injection needle is removed. It is adapted to close the opening therethrough, thereby wiping most of the blood from the needle and preventing blood from leaking. The tubular sleeve may have an outer end with a coupling (26) for connecting to a retractable needle injection assembly. Also disclosed herein is a method of using the device with the retractable needle injection assembly to inject a drug solution without exposing the health care worker to accidental contact with the needle. |
