titleOfInvention | Compositions and methods for cleaning hydrophilic contact lenses |
abstract | (57) [Summary]nDisclosed are compositions and methods that inhibit protein uptake and reduce the formation of lysozyme deposits on the outer surface and in the inner matrix of hydrophilic contact lenses. One method comprises contacting a contact lens with a chemical agent selected from the group consisting of protamine, polyarginine, polylysine, chitosan and mixtures thereof. Another method comprises placing the lens in a hypotonic solution for a time sufficient to cause swelling of the lens and expansion of the matrix pores. The solution is then composed of chloride salt, chlorite salt, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid sodium salt, cysteine salt and mixtures thereof to bring the lens and its pores to osmotic pressure to shrink them to normal size. Add a negatively charged chemical agent selected from the group. The chemical agent is also present in an amount sufficient to cause desorption of protein deposits from the lens surface and matrix. The lens is then dipped into the chemical agent containing solution for a time sufficient to significantly reduce and / or inhibit protein deposit formation on and / or in the lens. Yet another method of the present invention comprises contacting the contact lens with a negatively charged high molecular weight chemical agent selected from the group consisting of, for example, alginic acid, xanthan gum and mixtures thereof. |
