abstract (57) [Summary] A method for substantially completely oxidizing a substance in an aqueous phase under conditions of supercritical temperature and subcritical pressure or supercritical pressure, in which oxidation is initiated in the presence of a small amount of a strong oxidant. The oxidant has a function of increasing the initial reaction rate of oxidation. Strong oxidants suitable for use in the present invention include ozone (O 3 ), hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ), salt-containing persulfate (S 2 O 8 2− ), salt-containing permanganate (MnO 2 ). 4 -), nitric acid (HNO 3), a salt-containing nitrate (NO 3 -), oxy acids of chlorine and the corresponding salts thereof, hypochlorous acid (HOCl), salt-containing hypochlorite (OCl -), nitrous chlorate (HOClO), salt-containing chlorite (ClO 2 -), chlorate (HOClO 2), salt-containing chlorate (ClO 3 -), perchlorate (HOClO 3), and salt-containing perchlorate salt - contains at least one selected from the group consisting of (ClO 4).
