Optical data memory that can be selectively changed |
abstract |
(57) [Summary] A selectable changeable optical data memory (10) comprises a liquid crystal display (12) comprising a nematic medium (22) consisting of a nematic phase and a solid phase dispersed therein, a first voltage source ( 26), a second voltage source (30) and a tunable laser (32). By using the first voltage source (26) and creating a formation voltage, the entire display can be transformed into a homeotropic state. The laser (32) can be used to create an at least partially erasable or modifiable alignment pattern in the display by applying a threshold voltage and simultaneous irradiation by the laser (32). |
