abstract (57) SUMMARY Disclosed are novel porous copolymers that can be used to employ ion exchange resins and polymeric adsorbents. The copolymer consists of a copolymer of at least one monovinylidene monomer and a crosslinkable monomer and has a unique cellular pore structure. This cell structure comprises macroporous void phases dispersed in a continuous copolymer phase. The porous void phase consists of a number of cellular void spaces that are at least partially surrounded by the walls of the continuous copolymer phase. Also disclosed are methods that can be used to make the porous copolymer, as well as ion exchange resins and polymeric adsorbents that use the porous copolymer.
