abstract (57) [Summary]nThe present invention relates to a method of treating a mammal suffering from a retrovirus-related neurological disease by administering an effective amount of a bystander antigen. The bystander antigen is selected such that suppressor T cells release transforming growth factor β (TGF-β). Preferably, the target of T cells is attacked by a cytotoxic attack during the neurological disease. The selected body part (ie, nerve tissue) in the body of the mammal receiving the disease is selected. The released TGF-β suppresses cells involved in cytotoxic attack and reduces neurological disease.
