SOLUTION: (A) a metallocene compound of a Group IVB transition metal, and (B) Y + · Z − [Y + is HN + R 1 R 2 R 3 ; A pyridinium cation, a carbocation or a metal cation, Z − is a boron anion, ClO 4 − or CF 3 SO 3 − ] or B (C 6 F n H 5-n ). A lactone polymerization catalyst consisting of 3 (wherein n is 0 ≦ n ≦ 5). A lactone polymerization method in which a lactone is polymerized in the presence of the lactone polymerization catalyst.
