(57) Abstract: [PROBLEMS] To provide a method for producing an asymmetric compound using a metal complex that does not contain a rare earth metal element and can obtain an optically active substance with high optical purity. An optically active binaphthol, an aluminum or an alkali is prepared by reacting an optically active binaphthol with lithium aluminum hydride or a dialkylaluminum hydride with a base containing an alkali metal (or a base containing an alkaline earth metal). A metal complex composed of a metal (or an alkaline earth metal) is prepared. By carrying out an asymmetric Michael reaction, an asymmetric phosphonylation reaction, etc. using this metal complex as a catalyst, an asymmetric compound having high optical purity can be obtained in a high yield.
