(57) [Summary] [Object] To obtain a binder for a magnetic recording medium having a large dispersibility, excellent running durability and storage stability, and a magnetic recording medium using the same. [Structure] A binder for a magnetic recording medium for forming a magnetic layer in which ferromagnetic powder is dispersed on a non-magnetic support, comprising a polyurethane resin, which is a reaction product of diol and organic diisocyanate as main raw materials, and has a cyclic structure. The polyurethane resin contains a short-chain diol having a structure in an amount of 17 to 40% by weight, and the polyurethane resin contains a long-chain diol containing an ether group in an amount of 1.0 to 5.0 mmol / g. A binder for a magnetic recording medium containing 50% by weight and a magnetic recording medium using the same. |
