abstract | (57) [Summary] [Purpose] Since it has a high coercive force, a large saturation magnetization, an excellent blackness, and excellent chemical and magnetic stability over time, it is suitable for high density recording media. An acicular cobalt-adhered magnetite particle powder suitable as iron oxide particle powder is provided. [Structure] An acicular magnetite particle has a spinel-type ferrite deposit layer containing cobalt as a lower layer and a spinel-type ferrite deposit layer containing cobalt and magnesium as an upper layer on the particle surface, and further as an outermost layer. An acicular cobalt-adhered magnetite particle powder comprising at least one layer composed of Si or Al or a compound containing any of Si and Al. |
