abstract (57) Abstract: A method for producing a substituted pyridine compound is provided as an intermediate of the industrially and economically advantageous method for producing a pyridinesulfonamide herbicide. SOLUTION: General formula (II): (Wherein R 1 and R 2 are alkyl groups, Hal is a halogen atom) and a halogeno-substituted pyridine compound and M 2 Sx (wherein M is an alkali metal element, x is 2 to 8), followed by acid treatment to give a compound of the general formula (III) (Wherein R 1 and R 2 are as defined above) to form a mercapto-substituted pyridine compound and a salt thereof, and then oxidize and chlorinate to obtain a compound of the general formula (I) (Wherein R 1 and R 2 are as defined above), which is a chlorosulfonyl-substituted pyridine-based compound.
