abstract | (57) [Summary] [Structure] At least one having a transparent electrode layer has a light control layer sandwiched between two transparent substrates, and the light control layer comprises (A) a phenyl benzoate derivative, B) Biphenyl derivative having cyano group, terphenyl derivative having cyano group, cyanobiphenylcyclohexane derivative, A bicyclic tolan derivative having a 2-methylphenyl group, or a tricyclic tolan derivative having a 2-methylphenyl group and a cyclohexylphenyl group, and (C) A light-scattering liquid crystal display device containing a liquid crystal material containing a tricyclic tolan derivative having a 3,4-difluorophenyl group and a cyclohexylphenyl group, and a transparent solid substance. The liquid crystal display element of the present invention is a light-scattering liquid crystal display element that does not require a polarizing plate and has a bright image quality, and maintains and improves lower voltage drivability and has a whiter and brighter display characteristic. |
