A method for producing a tetralin compound, wherein the tetralin compound is obtained by hydrogenating a naphthalene compound. A tetralin carboxylic acid ester compound represented by the formula: RXA 1 -Y 1 -ZC * H (CH 3 ) COO-Q 1 -C * H (Q 2 ) -Q 3 . (In the formula, R, R ', Q 3 are alkyl groups, etc., Z is tetrahydronaphthylene etc., X is -O- etc., A 1 is biphenylene etc., Y 1 is -COO- etc., Q 1 is — (CH 2 ) a −, Q 2 is CF 3, etc.) [Effect] The tetralin compound and the process for producing the same of the present invention can provide an intermediate of a tetralin carboxylic acid ester compound. The tetralinic carboxylic acid ester compound of the present invention has excellent liquid crystal properties.
