abstract (57) [Summary] [Structure] The following general formula (1) (Wherein, R 1 represents a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent hydrocarbon group having same or different, R 2 is .a represents an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms the same or different from 0 to 2.2, b is a number of 0.2 to 3 and a + b is 2 to 3, provided that the number of silicon atoms in the molecule is 2 to 5) in the presence of a cation exchange resin. 1. A method for producing a low-molecular-weight organosiloxane having a silanol group, which comprises adding 1.0 mole of water or more of the alkoxy group of the alkoxysiloxane and stirring the mixture to carry out hydrolysis. [Effect] According to the production method of the present invention, a low molecular weight, particularly dimer diol, having a silanol end group is obtained in good yield. A straight chain organosiloxane containing trimer diol can be obtained, and this organosiloxane can be effectively used as a dispersant in producing a silicone rubber compound.
