abstract (57) [Summary] [Object] The present invention relates to an improvement in a method for producing a sulfone derivative useful as an intermediate for a herbicide. [Configuration] The following general formula (1) (In the formula, R 1 is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted benzyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted thiazolylmethyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted pyridylmethyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted tenyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted furfuryl group, R 2 represents a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group, R 2 represents a hydrogen atom or a dialkylcarbamoyl group, and the two alkyl groups may be ring-forming alkylene groups). A process for producing a corresponding sulfone derivative, which comprises oxidizing tungstic acid or a salt thereof in the presence of hydrogen peroxide with hydrogen peroxide. [Effect] According to the method of the present invention, the target sulfone derivative can be industrially advantageously produced in high purity and high yield on an industrial scale.
