(57) [Summary] (Modified) [Structure] A saturated hydrocarbon ring in which one or more hydrogen atoms (H) are replaced by deuterium atoms (D) [eg, 1-cyano-4- (trans-4-propylcyclohexyl-2,2,6-d 3 ) benzene] as a partial structure, a liquid crystal composition containing a liquid crystal compound, and a liquid crystal display device using the same. [Effect] This liquid crystal composition has no crystals precipitated even in a low temperature region, has a relatively low threshold voltage, and has a fast response speed. Therefore, by using this liquid crystal composition, it is possible to manufacture a liquid crystal display device exhibiting good driving characteristics in a low temperature region where the liquid crystal display device could not be used. In particular, it is extremely useful as a constituent material of an active matrix drive type or STN display type liquid crystal display device, which is expected to be used in a low temperature region. |
