abstract | (57) [Abstract] [Purpose] Industrial production of needle-shaped magnetic iron oxide particles having a uniform particle size, no dendritic particles mixed, and a large axial ratio (major axis diameter / minor axis diameter). A method for producing the same is provided. [Structure] An oxygen-containing gas is passed through a reaction solution containing an iron-containing precipitate obtained by reacting an aqueous solution of a ferrous salt and an aqueous alkali solution of less than equivalent amount to generate needle-shaped goethite core particles, The ferrous salt reaction solution containing the acicular goethite nucleus particles is aerated with an oxygen-containing gas while adding an alkaline aqueous solution so as to maintain the pH value of the solution within the range of 3 to 6. Needle-like magnetite particles are formed by performing a particle growth reaction, and then needle-like magnetite particles are obtained by reducing the needle-like goethite particles, or needle-like magnetite particles are further oxidized to obtain needle-like maghemite particles. In the method for producing iron oxide particle powder, ascorbic acid or a salt thereof is allowed to be present in the reaction solution for producing needle-shaped goethite particles in advance, and water is added to the reaction solution during the growth reaction.
