titleOfInvention | Photosensitive polymer composition for flexographic printing plates processable in aqueous medium |
abstract | (57) Abstract: A photocurable composition useful in the manufacture of water-developable solid printing plates is a complexation of a urethane (meth) acrylate prepolymer with a poly (vinylpyrrolidone) composition. It is prepared by blending with a polymer. The resulting composition is suitably compounded with additional photoactive (meth) acrylate monomer or oligomer and photoinitiator and cast or extruded onto a support to form a flexographic printing plate. After exposing the printing plate according to the invention to UV light through a negative, the non-exposed areas are washed away with an aqueous medium and removed to obtain a printing plate with the desired relief image. The use of aqueous cleaning solutions as opposed to organic solvents minimizes contamination problems. The use of complexing polymers significantly reduces cold flow of the uncured printing plate and increases the toughness and tack of the cured printing plate. |
