(57) [Abstract] [Purpose] To provide a projection display device that is small, lightweight, and has excellent color reproducibility. [Structure] Near-parallel light emitted from a light source 331 enters a color filter 16. The color filter 16 transmits high-purity three-primary-color light and removes unnecessary cyan light and yellow light. The reflected light from the color filter 16 enters a light valve composed of a transmissive liquid crystal panel 338 and a polarizing plate 333. The liquid crystal panel 338 has a pixel structure in which a color filter 336 that transmits red, green, and blue component light is arranged corresponding to each pixel. The light emitted from the light valve is enlarged and projected on the screen by the projection lens 339. Further, if the color filter is used in a projection display device using three PD liquid crystal panels, the color purity of the projected image can be improved. |
