abstract (57) [Summary] [Construction] The present invention provides a mutant strain of Escherichia coli mutated to express N-acylneuraminic acid aldolase-producing ability in the absence of an inducer, which is an N-acylneuramine belonging to the genus Escherichia. A recombinant plasmid in which a chromosomal DNA fragment containing an N-acylneuraminic acid aldolase gene derived from an acid aldolase-producing bacterium has been introduced, the resulting transformant is cultured, and N-acylneuraminic acid aldolase is collected from the culture. A method for producing an acylneuraminic acid aldolase is provided. [Effect] According to the method of the present invention, a significant amount of the target enzyme can be easily produced by culturing in a sialic acid-free medium.
