Process for producing a carpet having a secondary backing which is substantially impermeable to liquids and the resulting carpet |
abstract |
(57) Summary (Modified) Composition: Applying a liquid repellent finish to the secondary backing 2 and drying the finish. The finish can be applied as a foam to the secondary backing by press rolls against gravity. Also included are the resulting carpets produced from these methods. The carpet of the present invention has a secondary backing material that is substantially impermeable to liquids. The primary backing of this carpet is liquid permeable and the spilled liquid does not spread excessively across the fibers of the face of the carpet and becomes trapped between the face fibers and the secondary backing. . Then Spilled liquid is removed by vacuum, sponge wicking, or other suitable means. The method of the present invention is also commercially versatile because foam and spray application systems for applying liquid repellent finishes can be easily installed in carpet factories. |
