abstract (57) [Summary] (Modified) [Purpose] Titanium oxide has excellent solubility in solvents used for paints, inks, etc. by uniformly chlorinating low molecular weight polyolefin suspended in water. Provided is a method for producing a low-molecular-weight chlorinated polyolefin excellent in dispersibility of pigments such as the above and compatibility with resins such as alkyd, rosin, and acrylic. [Structure] When chlorinating a low molecular weight polyolefin having a molecular weight of 1,000 to 40,000 in an aqueous suspension state, a compound represented by the formula (I) or the like chlorinated in an amount of 0.5 mol or more is added to a reaction solution. (R 1 to R 4 represent hydrogen, a hydroxyl group or an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms. X represents any one of SO 3 M 1 , OSO 3 M 2 and OPO 2 M 3.
