abstract (57) [Summary] [Object] To provide a hydrogen storage alloy for a negative electrode of a nickel-hydrogen storage battery, which has low Co content, low cost, long life, and excellent high rate discharge characteristics. [Structure] General formula MmNi x M y (Mm is a mixture of misch metal or rare earth element, M is Al, Mn, Co, C at least one element selected from the group consisting of u, Fe, Cr, Zr, Ti and V, and 5.0 ≦ x + y ≦ 5.5), the alloy structure thereof has a CaCu 5 type crystal structure and reversibly absorbs and releases hydrogen, and one or more phases containing elements other than Mm as a main component and not absorbing hydrogen.
