abstract (57) Summary An object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus and method for forming an anatomical cavity. A laparoscopic device using an introducer having a tubular member with a bore therethrough and a method of introducing into a body lumen or potential lumen. The laparoscopic device is provided with a tunneling shaft assembly and slidably mounted within the bore of the introducer. The channeling shaft assembly has a channeling shaft, and a channeling member is attached to the distal end of the channeling shaft. A balloon assembly is provided that is removably secured to the tunneling shaft, the balloon assembly having a balloon wrapped about the tunneling shaft. A sheath surrounding the balloon is provided on the tunneling shaft. The sheath is provided with a slit extending longitudinally so that the sheath can be removed to release and inflate the balloon.
