abstract (57) [Summary] [Object] To provide a high refractive index material having a high refractive index, excellent transparency, and capable of forming a transparent coating film layer on a plastic substrate with sufficient adhesion. [Structure] A high refractive index material obtained by hydrolyzing a polymer having a number average molecular weight of 1,000 to 500,000, which is composed of the repeating unit represented by the following general formula (I) and then subjected to a condensation reaction. In the formula, R 1 represents hydrogen or a methyl group, R 2 represents an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and R 3 represents an alkyl group, a phenyl group or a naphthyl group. x represents 1, 2 or 3, y represents 0, 1 or 2, and has a relationship of x + y = 3. A represents titanium, zirconium or germanium.
