titleOfInvention Absorbent article with improved surge management capability
abstract (57) [Summary] (Modified) [Purpose] To obtain an absorption structure that effectively ingests and retains liquid. A construction generally provides a backsheet layer 30 and an absorbent retention portion 48 overlaid on the backsheet layer. A porous topsheet layer 28 is disposed opposite the backsheet layer, sandwiching the retention portion and the surge treated portion between the topsheet layer and the backsheet layer. The topsheet layer has edge regions 94,96 bonded to the edge regions 98,100 of the backsheet layer. The combined edge region of the topsheet layer and the backsheet layer is located laterally outside the lateral edge region of the surge relief section. Surfactants are applied to the central portion 104 of the topsheet layer, making the central portion more wettable than the rest of the topsheet layer. The width of the central portion is substantially less than or equal to the width of the surge relief portion.
