titleOfInvention Display panel and projection display device
abstract (57) [Summary] [Object] To provide a display panel in which scattered light is absorbed by a light absorption film and does not return to the liquid crystal layer of each liquid crystal panel again, and thus display contrast is improved. [Structure] The light emitted from a lamp 11b is cut into ultraviolet rays and infrared rays by a UVIR cut mirror 12a, reflected by a plane mirror 13, and enters incident light 283b into a dichroic prism 181. A reflective polymer dispersed liquid crystal panel 15 is attached to the prism 181 on the dichroic prism 181. A light absorbing film is formed on the ineffective region of the prism. Each liquid crystal panel 15 modulates R, G, B lights, and the modulated lights are incident on the light separating / combining surface 20 of the prism 181. The emitted light 283a is condensed by the lens 181b and the projection lens 181 and projected on the screen.
