abstract | (57) [Summary] [Structure] A liquid crystal display material comprising a low molecular weight liquid crystal, a high molecular weight material, a polymerizable low molecular weight material and a polymerization initiator is coated on a substrate 1 having an electrode 2 on its surface to form a liquid crystal layer 3. A liquid crystal display device manufactured by the steps of :, a step of polymerizing the above-mentioned polymerizable low molecular weight compound, a step of sandwiching a liquid crystal layer with another substrate 1 having an electrode 2 on the surface, and the like. In the liquid crystal layer obtained by the above method, the polymer material and the low-molecular liquid crystal are phase-separated, and one polymer material is present at the interface of the low-molecular liquid crystal. It has a structure in which the composition ratio of the polymer material gradually changes or has a structure in which one polymer material is dispersed in a low-molecular liquid crystal. [Effect] A liquid crystal display device that can be driven at a low voltage and has high response characteristics is provided. |
