abstract (57) [Summary] [Object] To provide a novel fluorine-containing compound useful as an intermediate raw material for an antiferroelectric liquid crystal compound, and a method for producing the same. [Structure] Syn- (1S, 2R)-which is a novel compound 2-hydroxy-1-trifluoromethylalkyl = 4 -Benzyloxybenzoate and anti- (1 S, 2S) -2-Hydroxy-1-trifluoromethylalkyl = 4-benzyloxybenzoate in a diastereomeric mixture, as well as in an organic solvent, (S)- A method for producing the novel compound by using 1-hydroxy-2,2,2-trifluoroalkylketone as a raw material, and using an alkali metal hydride, 4-benzyloxybenzoyl chloride and a metal hydride. [Effect] This novel compound is useful as an intermediate raw material of an antiferroelectric liquid crystal compound, and can be produced efficiently by a simple operation in a high yield.
