titleOfInvention Noise figure measuring method and device
abstract (57) [Abstract] [Purpose] To enable simple and highly accurate measurement of the characteristics of optical amplifiers that are supplied from many suppliers and have different manufacturing processes. [Structure] A repetitive optical pulse signal whose intensity is modulated at a period sufficiently shorter than the atomic life or carrier life of the upper level of the optical amplifier to be measured is applied to the input of the optical amplifier to be measured, and the optical pulse signal has a certain time domain. The output optical power of the measured optical amplifier that is synchronized with the optical amplifier and the output power of the measured optical amplifier that is synchronized with the time domain without the optical pulse signal are separately detected.
