(57) Summary [Object] To provide a gene encoding a precursor of a C-terminal amidated peptide, a plasmid having the gene inserted therein, and a unicellular organism or animal cell transformed with the plasmid. [Structure] The following formula: A gene consisting of the chemically synthesized double-stranded polynucleotide shown in, a plasmid having the gene inserted therein, and a unicellular organism or animal cell transformed with the plasmid. [Effect] By culturing the above-mentioned organisms or cells, a precursor of a carboxyl-terminal amidated peptide can be obtained, and the precursor itself has a strong physiological activity even though the carboxyl terminal is not amidated.
