abstract (57) [Summary] [Object] To provide a coating resin capable of imparting excellent printability and printing effect to paper, and further to provide a paper coating composition using the same. [Structure] This paper coating resin has the following formula (K, m, n are 2-6, p, q are 0-4), It is obtained by reacting with aldehydes, epihalohydrins or α, γ-dihalo-β-hydrins. In addition to the above two components, (R, s, t, u may be 2 to 6, v, w may be 0 or 1). By mixing the water-soluble resin thus obtained with a pigment and an aqueous binder, a coating composition for paper is obtained. [Effect] Paper coated with this composition is excellent in ink acceptability and water resistance, and particularly excellent in blister resistance.
