abstract (57) [Summary] [Object] To suppress the generation of hydrogen gas due to trace impurities such as iron and nickel contained in a battery in a mercury-free alkaline battery using zinc as a negative electrode active material. [Constitution] Bi 2 O 3 containing bismuth oxide such as bismuth oxide in the electrolyte is 5 ppm or more and 1 wt% with respect to zinc. Addition below, or a bismuth compound such as bismuth oxide and an indium compound such as indium oxide as Bi 2 O 3 and In 2 O 3 , respectively, 5 ppm with respect to zinc Above 1 wt% is added.
