abstract (57) [Summary] [Constitution] In a medium consisting of water and a water-soluble organic solvent, Dispersion stabilizer for suspension polymerization containing an ion-modified vinyl alcohol polymer as a main component, which is used when suspension-polymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer. [Effect] When the dispersion stabilizer of the present invention is used, adhesion of scale to the inner wall of the polymerization vessel is small and polymerization can be carried out at low temperature, so that a polymer having a high degree of polymerization can be obtained and a wide molecular weight distribution is obtained. A polymer is obtained.
