abstract (57) [Summary] [Structure] A protease having the following properties obtained by expressing an unexpressed portion of genomic DNA of Bacillus NKS-21, a gene encoding the same, a method for producing the protease and uses thereof: (1) Suitable pH is 11 or more; (2) Stable pH is 5 to 11.5; (3) Optimum working temperature is about 50 ° C; (4) Stable up to 55 ° C at pH 10, complete deactivation at 65 ° C; (5) Suc- Ala-Ala-Pro-Phe-MCA, casein, hemoglobin, curpain, salmine and gelatin are degraded; (6) Isoelectric point by agarose electrophoresis is less than 2.8; (7) Molecular weight by SDS-PAGE method is about 37,000; (8) Completely inhibited by phenylmethanesulfonyl fluoride, chymostatin and antipain. [Effect] It is stable against heat and surfactants and is useful as an industrial enzyme such as a cleaning aid.
