[Structure] In an inference system 101 including a knowledge base 107 of laws and facts, a step 109 of constructing a restricted new context 111 from a default 103, a current context 105, and a knowledge base 107, and a given fact and new context. Step 113 of determining a relationship for consistency with the context by a rapid consistency check, and if the consistency check indicates that the given fact matches the knowledge base. A method for determining a match, comprising: treating 117 as matching the knowledge base, and an apparatus for performing the method.
