(57) [Summary] [Purpose] The purpose is to further introduce a carboxyl group into an aromatic carboxylic acid or a derivative thereof. A benzoic acid, a biphenylcarboxylic acid, a naphthalenecarboxylic acid, a diphenylcarboxylic acid, or a derivative thereof is reacted with a carbon tetrahalide in the presence of cyclodextrin and an alkali metal hydroxide, whereby the aromatic carboxylic acid is reacted. Substituting hydrogen bonded to the aromatic ring of the acid or derivative to introduce a carboxyl group into the aromatic ring. |
