titleOfInvention | Mutual inquiry method and its apparatus for combined scalar / vector processing system |
abstract | (57) [Summary] [Purpose] To solve the problem of cache coherency, Further, it provides a means and method for enabling "pipelined" operand VXE requests directly to system storage, thereby retaining the benefits gained from scalar data caches while at the same time gaining the benefits of conventional supercomputer design. . A combined scalar / vector processing system includes a scalar XI directory for recording lines currently stored by a scalar processor and a vector storage register element (VSR) for recording lines currently stored by a vector processor. Given, both vector and scalar XI requests are compared with their addresses stored in the vector store register elements. If there is a match in the VSR, any response normally supplied by the Scalar XI directory will be held pending until its vector storage register element receives a release signal from the vector processor indicating that the vector processor has terminated. This prevents the scalar processor from fetching invalid data. |
