titleOfInvention Grayscale single component non-magnetic development system
abstract (57) [Summary] [Object] To develop an electrostatic latent image on a photoconductor, an AC and DC bias voltage applied to a developing roller and a single-component non-magnetic developer applied by a supply roller are used. An electrophotographic grayscale single component non-magnetic development system is provided. [Structure] The developer is toner particles 46 that are charged to a single polarity. And a mixture 45 of transparent beads 47 that are charged to the opposite polarity and are triboelectrically charged together in an alternating electric field between the two rollers rather than frictionally contacting the device surface. Supply roller The latent image is formed by applying the charged mixture to the developing roller 13. 21 is developed to an image density 22 determined by the DC bias value. The DC bias 54 of the supply roller is the DC of the developing roller. A potential gradient is applied in connection with the bias 50 to drive the collectively charged mixture to the developing roller. The doctor blade 15 evens out the toner 44 on the developing roller to a selected thickness. The developing roller has an uncoated or non-conductive coated semiconductor surface layer 27.
