abstract (57) [Abstract] [Purpose] To improve the charge retention during charging and reduce image defects. [Structure] A photoconductive layer 102 made of a non-single-crystal material having silicon atoms as a matrix is laminated on a conductive substrate 101, and the photoconductive layer 102 is made of hydrogenated amorphous silicon containing at least nitrogen and boron atoms. Therefore, the content (X) of nitrogen atoms and the content (Y) of boron atoms in the photoconductive layer 102 have a relationship of Y = e AX-B (A and B are constants).
