[Effects] Liquid crystals exhibiting high spontaneous polarization as ferroelectric liquid crystals, no coloring, excellent chemical stability and photostability, and non-ferroelectric liquid crystal compositions exhibiting no liquid crystal properties. When used as an additive for mixing with a substance to form a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition or as a compounding component for a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition, it enhances spontaneous polarization as a composition, increases the helical pitch, and increases the response speed.
