abstract (57) [Abstract] [Purpose] To reduce the fatness of characters in character reproduction in an image forming apparatus, and particularly to improve the character reproducibility in generation copying. [Structure] The tone correction curve for characters is set to be sharper and harder than the other tone correction curves, and the tone correction curve for characters is saturated in the middle to correct for characters. The subsequent maximum density value is set to be lower than the corrected maximum density values of the others.
